Happy Thanksgiving!

John is on-call today.  But unless an appendix is about to burst or a baby is ready to deliver (and the mommy is screaming for pain relief) we figure we’re safe from him being called in.  John is the master cook of this family, so I always get nervous about holidays where he’s on-call.   Sure enough, at 8:30 this morning, just as we’re about to start making the pancake batter for breakfast the phone rang.  A labor patient.  Ugg.  He’ll be gone all day.  Any other Thanksgiving Day where we didn’t have people visiting us, or where we weren’t going to visit others, I would have just shrugged my shoulders and found something to heat from the freezer.

I have Maya to Thank for making me make Thanksgiving happen, even if I have to do it myself.  Turkey and stuffing wasn’t such a big deal after all!  Its now resting on its rack ready to be carved.  Roasted potatoes and parsnips and a brocolli souffle are piping hot.  Sauteed brussle sprouts will accompany mashed potatoes.  And of course, cranberry sauce.

John just called to say he should be home in the next hour.  We are eagerly awaiting his return so we can sit down to feast.  For now, Maya’s watching Tom ‘n Jerry (for the very first time and she’s totally engrossed), and I am sitting with her tapping away on this here ‘puter.  Life is very good.  Thank you Universe.

…and a quote for today…

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
