Coffee

aletawondoAleta Wondo Coffee’s website simply states: Today, in a village called Aleta Wondo, coffee is being perfected.  Unlike ordinary coffee, Aleta Wondo coffee is unblended, the village’s extraordinary beans yielding a brew laced with flavors of chocolate, berries, and bergamot.   A limited number of bags will be available this year (coffee this good cannot be grown in bulk). But to 14,000 farmers of Aleta Wondo, every bag sold is cause for celebration.   It is our privilege to return at least 20% of the profits directly to the village—so every extraordinary sip supports healthcare, education, water projects, and more.

fair_trade_logoGobena Coffee is the brainchild of Steve and Danae Lehman who after adopting their daughter from Ethiopia were inspired to sell Ethiopian coffee.  100% of the proceeds go to helping children worldwide.  The have just completed construction of a group home for children orphaned by AIDS in Addis Ababa.  Find their coffee and their mission at Gobena Coffee.

deans-beansDeans Beans is an amazing fair-trade business working with coffee farmers in Ethiopia.  They say “We promote local empowerment and self-reliance through our Fair Trade purchases and our work with local grassroots development and human rights groups. We also sponsor projects here at home with disenfranchised communities such as Native Americans, the homeless and disabled, and many other groups trying to improve their lives and that of their communities. Every cup you drink and every pound you buy contributes directly to the welfare of coffee growers and consumers.
